Allow me to be in a grump. I think I’ve earned it this week.

Over the way, there is a gang of decorators painting a beautiful house. They are working quickly (too quickly, I’d say) and there are lots of them. As far as I can see, they haven’t primed or sanded or done careful prep work, and for this I have taken to narrowing my eyes at them in a scowling way every time I go out.

I’m sure they think I’m most fearsome.

This just makes me crosser.

Today is the icing on the cake. They have begun to sing.

Their radio is stuck permanently on some easy listening station and this morning they’ve sung loudly along to Sex Machine, Oliver’s Army and Mama Mia, and I am about to go over there and politely shove them in the skip.

Now, I’ve employed builders before, and I’m sure they drove my neighbours mad as much as they did me.* I once climbed up the three storey ladder onto the scaffolding while our builders and the roofers were drinking coffee, to turn off their stupid radio. There was a hammer right there, I should have smashed it to pieces. But I didn’t, because I’m tooΒ kind British.

I’m sorry! I told you I was in a grump. Normal service will resume soon.

In the meantime, here’s another iPad/apple pencil miracle. I photographed an original painting, took it into procreate on my iPad and doodled on it. If you get this blog by email you’ll have to hop over to my blog page to see it working. It’s worth it!

*Our builders were so nice though, honestly. I missed them when they’d gone (for a few minutes).

PS: At the moment, while I’m working, I like to listen to Daughter. You won’t have to listen or watch long to see why the builders’ cheery singing has got me in a grump!

  1. You make me smile when I “hear” you speaking! You can be forgiven for feeling grumpy. It’s been a sad time for you. I feel very envious of your obvious talent with the iPad. You make it look so easy! Well done. And with Felix leaving home for Uni life will change for you again! Love from your elderly admirer! Roger

    • Dear Roger, the admiration has always been mutual. πŸ™‚ Yes – sad times. And Alex has been away again with work things here and there throughout, though miraculously he was here on that final night! Two more weeks for Felix and then he’s off. His bedroom looks like an IKEA student flat, with piles of saucepans and cushions and shiny new plates. He keeps asking me how do I cook xyz?! He’s going to have a ball in London ( and I am as well encouraging him to go to HTB, which is of course 5 minutes away from his student halls πŸ™‚ )
