I was recently commissioned to illustrate the front cover of The Richmond Magazine. How exciting! Even more amazing, it was to be the celebratory issue for the Queens 90th birthday. I was thrilled to bits, and I had an interesting time researching Queen Elizabeth II, and learnt a lot about her while considering my illustration. I had one word in my head while I worked – respect. What an amazing lady she is. I wanted to capture her sense of responsibility, her poise, her determination and her beauty.
Here’s the finished cover:
I’ve been inundated with kind messages and encouragement since the magazines came out. It’s been astonishing, and the response to my painting has been a little overwhelming. Many people asked about prints, and so I have started producing some. If you would like one to commemorate this grand birthday year, you can find them in my shop here:
…and they are also now being sold by my lovely friends at The Wise House, a fabulous, small independent shop, with an ethical stance. The Wise House is definitely one to watch – they have such beautiful things.
Happy Birthday, Ma’am!
