Holiday Blues

It’s hard to hang on to a holiday. As soon as I am home, every day things try to take over. That’s why a holiday is so good in the first place – there are new sights to see, and everything looks and seems different somewhere else. This time while we were away I did lots of sketches. This is my favourite one, probably because it’s of one of my best ever places to be, a deserted cove where you can swim all afternoon without seeing another soul!

The Rocks

The Rocks

I’m painting it from this sketch and memory only, making myself go back there mentally and see the colours as I remember them. First layers down today:

I was reading a book about the artist Christopher Wood (or Kit Wood) while I was on holiday, so i’m holding all that in my head too, in case it becomes useful in the painting.
